Scrabble on the iPad - Mon, 21 Jun 2010 13:00:00 +0000
Its the same board you know and love on the big iPad screen. But with iPad technology, SCRABBLE becomes a whole new game. Shake to shuffle tiles. Touch to zoom in and out on the board. And drag and drop to lay down letters. All you have to do is put words together — and iPad even helps you do that by giving you a hint for the best word. Play the way you want with customizable game rules and multiple difficulty levels. And follow your progress with game and score stats tracking.

Interview with TheScrabbleGal on CraftGossip!!! - Fri, 25 Jul 2008 09:00:00 +0000
Wanna know more about me? Check out my interview with Indie Crafts Editor Jaime over at CraftGossip!

Here's a little sample....

Tell us about your work. What kind of things do you make?

Tiles with style! Anything and everything from jewelry, home accessories, to even Scrabble related projects for your pets! I just recently started a tutorial and E-book series that teaches step-by-step how to make some of my favorite craft projects.

Why do you think scrabble tiles are such a great medium for creative crafting?

I love the process. And the challenge. Creating a new Scrabble tile project is in many ways like coming up with a new word when you’re actually playing the game of Scrabble. You start with a pile of tiles. You pick a few. Then you get stuck with a bunch of Q’s and Z’s and X’s and you think, “What the heck can I make with THAT?” But then you play around with the letters a bit. You take a look at the board. Eventually it starts to come together… And THEN the wheels start turning and you can’t stop the ideas from flying left and right!

That very same creative process takes place when you make your own Scrabble tile creations yourself. Once you learn a few simple techniques, the whole thing becomes super addictive. You start carrying around a pen and paper just to jot down all your ideas.

You can read the full interview HERE!

How to Make A Fingerprint Mini-Mosaic--Crafting with Scrabble Tiles-- Featured on JunkCreation! - Tue, 22 Jul 2008 07:18:00 +0000
One of my craft projects using Scrabble tiles was recently featured on JunkCreation, here's the blog post!

Laura, better known as TheScrabbleGal, is going to share with us a fun DIY project involving some re-purposed Scrabble tiles and a few other household materials.

She started creating handmade jewelry and crafts from recycled Scrabble tiles while in college. Now she’s a full-blown Scrabble tile addict. Well, perhaps I should refer to her as an artist instead! That’s her Scrabble tile cuff link to the left.

TheScrabbleGal offers an entire line of E-Book tutorials on how to make more than 77 Scrabble tile jewelry and craft projects, many of which incorporate recycled or re-purposed materials. Check out her Etsy shop — http://thescrabblegal.etsy.com/.

Now, a guest post straight from TheScrabbleGal:

This is a project I love teaching, because it’s easy, fun and great for kids! We’re going to make a fingerprint mini-mosaic using Scrabble tiles. All you need are some old Scrabble tiles, an ink pad and a little bit of white primer or paint.

Step 1: Set aside the tiles you’re going to need to spell out the words “Hand Print”

Step 2: Take 11 tiles (any letters will do) and prime the non-letter side so they are completely white. Add a second coat if necessary, and allow to dry completely.

Step 3: Using your old ink pad (be sure to use non-toxic ink) – one finger at a time, cover your fingertip in ink and press your fingertip on the white side of your tile to create a black-on-white fingerprint. Be sure to use one finger per tile. However, in the finished example, I’ve used two tiles for my right thumb. Also, I recommend practicing on a scrap piece of paper first, because getting just the right amount of ink can be a bit tricky. : )

Step 4: Arrange your tiles like the example above.

Step 5: From here, you can do a whole bunch of things – you can transform this into a refrigerator magnet, create a tiled-mosaic, or transform this into wall-art that can be framed and hanged – great for kids’ rooms. (I teach each of these techniques in detail in my tutorials, as well as how to use recycled papers instead of paint.) But there’s no reason to stop there. I’ve had a few Moms tell me that they’ve done a “baby’s first prints” scrapbook project using this idea. The options are endless.

Happy crafting!

Scrabble for iPhone - Tue, 22 Jul 2008 07:10:00 +0000
The iPhone version of the game currently includes three modes with three levels of difficulty. The game modes allow the user to play versus the computer, a solo game, and a Pass 'n Play—essentially a local multiplayer game with up to four competing local players. There have been grumblings around the Internet that a WiFi-enabled version is coming. We have our fingers crossed.

While deciding who you want to play your game against, you also have several different game styles to choose from. Among these are classic, a game to 75, a game to 150, an eight-round game, and a 12-round game. For those unfamiliar, the 8- and 12-round games refer to turns you are given before the game is over....

Scrabble for the iPhone is a nice port of a classic board game. If you love Scrabble, then it is easily worth the $9.99 price tag. If you are only a casual Scrabble fan, you may want to wait until the WiFi multiplayer version comes out.

Application: Scrabble (App Store Link)
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Price: $9.99
