- [Question] *Sigh* No Sound at all. - Wed, 01 Sep 2010 05:21:51 GMT
Okay, I am using a basic copy of Windows XP with a store bought Compaq computer.
According to my device manager my sound is running though this :
ATI Function Driver for High Definition Audio - ATI AA01
I have checked EVERYTHING, I have deleted and re installed drivers.
I have tried multiple sound out put devices.
I have even done a system restore.
Nothing will get the sound to work on this computer.
Does anyone have a suggestion for me to try? I have googled for hours with no results for new things to try.
Note this computer is basically brand new (hasn't been used in forever) and the sound worked on it just fine.
- [Question] Phoenix Bios D686 Error - Mon, 30 Aug 2010 01:18:02 GMT
I recently Acquired a older Computer, Case name is 'Computer Center'.
I am guessing it was a Spare Parts Build.
All the components work fine Floopy, CD, Ect.
But the BIOS on the motherboard seem to be Corrupt.
First start up i got a 'Checksum Error' through BootBlock
Asking for a Sys-Disk.
I created many system Disk's from all kinda OS's and nothing worked.
Booted with out Hard Drive, Floopy, CD, Attached
Checked Each Memory stick for Errors
Used the 'ClearCMOS' jumper, And nothing
removed the battery for 1 min and now i get nothing. Monitor wont activate
during boot, Both the power and Hard drive light stay on. One Long
Continues Beep several seconds after Starting the computer.
They are Award Bios, Phoenix D686 Removable Bios Chip.
Motherboard is CA64-TC Rev A+
Intel 1.1ghz Processor with 512MB memory
My Q's:
Is there any other way to Flash the Bios?
I have a 32 Pin Chip Flasher, Is there a Program i can use to Flash the Chip
Directly?
Are there any Advances in the LinuxBIOS projects that might Help here?
I have Access to Linux and Windows OS...
Thank you!

- Sunmicrosystems Jack with IE8 - Mon, 16 Aug 2010 19:29:31 GMT
am suddenly getting a message that Java Applets do not run. I'm using Windows XP (SP 3) and this has not happened in the past; seems to have started when I installed IE8. I went to the Java website and there's a bunch of instructions for going into Control Panel/Java/Advanced and being certain Internet Explorer is checked. I did that and followed any other instructions including re-installing. Nothing seems to work and I cannot use Java on this computer. Any suggestions?\
I have done this:
- Start Internet Explorer.
- Select Tools | Internet Options...
- Activate the Security tab.
- Click Custom Level...
- Make sure that "Scripting of Java applets" is set to Enable.
I've also done this:
Start Internet Explorer.
- Select Tools | Internet Options...
- Activate the Programs tab.
- Click Manage add-ons.
- If necessary click Toolbars and Extensions (probably already selected).
- Make sure that all items under Sun MicroSystems are enabled.
Neither of those worked.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
