Resolving 'Cannot turn off the reminder' Error in Exchange Account of Outlook - Mon, 08 Feb 2010 04:52:10 GMT
When using an Exchange Server account, Microsoft Outlook uses an offline folder (.ost) file to synchronize the data. The OST facilitates offline data access and is extremely useful in environments of unreliable and limited connectivity. If the file goes corrupted, the consequences are directly reflected when the OST synchronizes with Exchange or user tries to access the file objects. You need to deal with such corruption problems using Outlook built-in repair tools, restoring from backup or running an OST to PST Recovery tool that can successfully convert an unreadable OST to application-usable PST.

The further scenario discusses a practical situation of corruption in Outlook OST. Consider you use Outlook 2007 with an Exchange Server account. At times, when you try to access the calendar, it hangs and the Outlook exits automatically. You cannot dismiss the reminders and receive an error message that reads as:

“Cannot turn off the reminder. You may be reminded again.”

Additionally, you may also receive errors such as:

“Errors have been detected in the file file_path\outlook.ost”

The error further suggests to repair the file using Inbox Repair Tool (Scanpst.exe). As additional symptoms of Outlook OST corruption, you may also find file synchronization issues, either the file may not synchronize at all or give errors on clicking Send/Receive such as:

“Microsoft Exchange' reported error (0x80040600); 'Unknown errror 0x80040600”

All the above errors suggest Outlook OST corruption.

Solution

1)Run OST Integrity Check tool. For this, close Outlook and locate the tool at the following location:
2)
3)C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033

4)Double-click to start the tool and proceed as the tool prompts.
5)
6)Create a new Outlook profile, which automatically creates a new OST. You can try to import data to this new file if possible.
7)Use a third-party OST Recovery utility to scan and then convert an unusable offline folder to Outlook-importable PST file.

The OST to PST Recovery applications are highly competent to analyze the inaccessible OST and convert it to a completely accessible PST file. With their interactive interface, the applications are easy to use.

Stellar Phoenix Mailbox Exchange Desktop is a reliable utility that converts an unusable offline folder to PST. The easy to use OST Recovery tool supports MS Outlook 2007, 2003, 2002, and 2000. The software recovers all e-mails, calendar entries, contacts, notes and journals and is compatible with Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2003, and 2000.

How to speed up the Folder Loading time in Windows 7 - Sun, 07 Feb 2010 23:28:11 GMT
Let me ask you this question how many of you have faced this problem when ever you open any folder it takes a long time to load all the contents?

If you are facing this problem then we have the solution for this. But before knowing the solution then I would have to tell you the reason also due to which it happens so.

Every time we open any folder Windows 7 starts caching all the thumbnails and if the contents of the folder are large in number then it take a bit more time to complete the process. Now the question may arise why it take so much time as it might have cached the last time even? The answer to this is Windows 7 will delete the cache and rebuild it from the scratch every time that’s is the reason due to which it takes so much of time.

Below are the steps to be followed to speed up the loading time of the folders in Windows 7:

Step 1: Right click on the folder and select “Properties”
Step 2: Click on the customize tab.
Step 3: Select the appropriate option from the drop down box where it says “Optimize this folder for”
Step 4: Click on OK.

The option in the step 3 has to be selected based on the folder contents that you have. If all the contents are videos, music or pictures then you can select the respective option but if you have all the documents mixed up in your folder then you can select Documents option.

Try this and speed up your folder loading fast.

How to fix wmpnetwk.exe problem in Windows 7 - Sun, 07 Feb 2010 23:25:50 GMT
Let us start with knowing what is wmpnetwk.exe service. It is a service which is required for sharing streaming videos in a network using Windows Media Player.

It uses the system resources to about 90 percent and that too when you are not even using it. To check it :
1. Press ctrl+alt+del and click on the process tab.
2. Look for wmpnetwk.exe and look for the memory it uses

You will find that it uses a memory up to 5 MB to 10 MB.

The best way to resolve this problem is to disable this service forever but for few people who need this service then there is a fix for them which is explained in the below steps.

Step 1: Go to start and type “services.msc” in search panel.
Step 2: Look for “Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service” service in the window.
Step 3: Right click on the service and click on “STOP”
Step 4: Once the service gets stopped right click on the service again and select “Properties”
Step 5: In the properties window select the Startup type as Manual.
Step 6: Restart the computer.
Step 7: Once the computer gets started then go back to the properties and select the Startup type as “Automatic”

That’s all, the problem is resolved. Now you can use this service without any issues.

Sometimes without out our knowledge it happens that the Recycle Bin Icon from the desktop goes missing. We will just keep on guessing why it happened.

It happens when some of the applications that you download tend to change your windows settings or any game can change the settings which will in turn result in the change of the few settings and finally you will end up in missing the missing Recycle Bin Icon from the desktop.

If you come across this problem then follow the below steps to get back the Icon.

1.Right click on the Desktop.
2.Click on Personalize option.
3.A window will come up, Click on the “Change Desktop Icons” in the left pane.

AppCrashView - Know about Windows 7 Error Messages - Fri, 05 Feb 2010 02:34:37 GMT
While working on some application we often face this problem where the application just crashed with a simple message. All that happens is a small window will come up with an error message and the application gets closed.
We don’t even know the reason for the application to close.

Windows 7 has the copy of all those applications that got crashed. It has copy in the format of .wer files where wer stands for Windows Error Reporting. There is a small application called as AppCrashView which will read these .wer files and gives us the error report. The error report has the details for the application getting crashed.

AppCrashView is the application developed by Nirsoft. It has a window where you can see all the applications that have crashed and below the window there is the detailed explanation of the reason due to which the application crashed. It is also easy to export the explanation to any text/html file you want.

Do you know that there are many services that run on our system every time we switch on? For the better performance of the computer the services that run must be optimized. But what if we are not aware of all the services that are present?

SMART (Services Management And Realeasy Tweaking) is the tool that makes us know about all the services that are run on the system and it also gives us the option to enable, disable or change it to automatic. It also has recommended configuration settings like Safe Settings, Tweaked Settings, and Advanced Settings.

After you install the SMART utility and run it a window will come up with all the services running. To know about the respective utility click on the utility and there will a small explanation about the services at the bottom of the window. To enable, disable or change it to automatic right click on the respective service and select the required change.

How to disable Default and User Installed Desktop Gadgets in Windows 7 - Tue, 02 Feb 2010 10:45:17 GMT
Desktop Gadgets are small utilities that come up on our desktop. Sometimes we do not want the Desktop Gadgets to be present on the desktop. Here is the way to disable them.

There are two types of gadgets that are available. One are the default desktop gadgets and the second are the user installed gadgets. The former are the ones that come with the Windows 7 pack itself and the later are the ones that are installed from Microsoft website.

The following are the steps to disable the default desktop gadgets:

Step 1: Go to start and type gpedit.msc

Step 2: Click on User Configuration.

Step 3: A window will come up, navigate through the following from the window present in the left side.

Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Desktop Gadgets

Step 4: Click on the Turn-off user-installed desktop gadgets option on the right side of the window.

Step 5: A window will come up. Click on Enabled option and select OK.

Similarly to disable the user installed desktop gadgets then the following steps are to be followed:

Step 1: Go to start and type gpedit.msc

Step 2: Click on User Configuration.

Step 3: A window will come up, navigate through the following from the window present in the left side.

Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Desktop Gadgets

Step 4: Click on the Turn-off desktop gadgets option on the right side of the window.

Step 5: A window will come up. Click on Enabled option and select OK.

Now when the user tried to install or enable the user installed or the inbuilt desktop gadget then a window will pop up with the message “Desktop gadgets are managed by your system administrator”.

In order to make the changes effective all the users should be logged off and then logged in.
