Martha Villalobos continues to be very popular here on this blog, so I thought I'd throw up some videos I have found online of this famous Luchadora wrestling. Did you know that Martha once held the Mexican National Women's Championship for 1,399 consecutive days?
First up is a video of Martha taking on another popular luchadora, Lola Gonzalez. This was posted by renesilvacuevas.
Next up, is a video also posted by herbert43 of a six-woman tag-team match from 1993. This one is Martha, Tania and La Diabolica taking on Lola Gonzalez, Lady Apache and Xochitl Hamada. Embedding was disabled, but you can see the match here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vk6-ZL17Sew
Here is a really short video with Martha savaging La Rosa, posted by Torgaman.
And finally, here is a video of Martha and Black Cat taking on Rossy Moreno and Jaivos Jr. posted by LaredoPromotions...
Here is a video of luchadoras La Diabolica and Cinthia Moreno taking on the sister team of Faby Apache and Mary Apache in a match for the Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) wrestling promotion in Mexico. This video was posted by TheCatchChannel on YouTube. If you haven't checked out the Catch Channel yet, you should, because he has a lot of very good Lucha Libre video posted there.
One thing that makes this match so cool to me is that it's done in an outside venue, which is a big change from what you see here in the WWE and TNA.
And of course we have some interference from Billy Boy, that's thwarted by Aerostar. But unlike wrestling here, just because their male counterparts get involved, the match doesn't end, and the focus doesn't shift to them. The focus stays on the ladies wrestling.
And you have to look at the caliber of performer that you are seeing in the wrestling ring. La Diabolica made her Lucha Libre debut back in 1986, Cinthia Moreno has been wrestling since 1987, Faby Apache debuted in 1998 and Mary Apache started her Lucha Libre career in 2000. So Mary is the least experienced woman in the ring...with only nine years wrestling experience! Compare that to a lot of the WWE Divas or TNA Knockouts.
Anyway, here is the match....
And like I said, if you like Lucha Libre, be sure to check out The Catch Channel for more.
Here is a video posted on YouTube by newscott of luchadoras Dark Angel (Sarah Stock), Marcela and Lluvia wrestling Princesa Sugey, Hiroka and Rosa Negra in CMLL. This is just part one, and it runs ten minutes. And I'm not even gonna bore you with asking when was the last ten minute WWE Diva match you saw.
Anyway, the action is very fast paced, and the Rudas (heels) really dominate the technicas in the first round. But the technicas come back in the second round after Marcela catches fire and clears house. To see the rest of this video and more like it, check out newscott's YouTube Channel here: http://www.youtube.com/user/newscott
It's not as easy to find good quality Luchadora wrestling videos as it is Japanese female wrestling. But there are quite a few videos out there. It seems that the most popular are clips posted by luchadorasnet (http://www.youtube.com/user/luchadorasnet) on YouTube. The only problem is, that the videos posted are a year to three years old.
Here is one of American Angel (Sara Del Rey) taking on X-Stasis in the LLF...
And here is a video posted by herbert43 (http://www.youtube.com/user/herbert43) of La Sirenita wrestling Gatu Vera back in 1988 in the Wild West Wrestling promotion in Texas.
Here is part one of a two part video of Dark Angel, Marcela, Lady Apache wrestling Princesa Sujey, Amapola and Medusa posted by newscott (http://www.youtube.com/user/newscott) on YouTube.
And even though this is lucha libre and not Joshi, I couldnt leave out DoubleMiz (http://www.youtube.com/user/DoubleMiz). Here is part one of Ayako Hamada taking on Fabi Apache in AAA.
Usually when you see the name DoubleMiz it's associated with my Joshi blog, but here is a Lucha Libre video she posted of Ayako Hamada, Fabi Apache and Angel Williams (Angelina Love) taking on Sexy Star, Estrellita and Cinthia Moreno in a match for the Mexican wrestling promotion Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) in Mexico. This is a three part video and the actual match length is about thirty minutes. When's the last time you saw a thirty minute female wrestling match in the WWE or TNA? Luchador Konnan, who you may remember from WCW and TNA, introduces "his team" Ayako Hamada, Fabi Apache and Angel Williams as "real wrestlers" from Japan and the USA. But Ayako and Fabi were both born in Mexico City, Mexico and Angel was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Heck, Konnan himself was born in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. Well I guess he could have went for "international wrestlers" here....
Anyway, it's a really good match, and if you like womens wrestling videos, you really should think about subscribing to Double Miz's channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/DoubleMiz
Despite Sarita (Dark Angel, Sarah Stock) having a really good time in TNA (she and Taylor Wilde are the TNA Knockout Tag Team Champions) it doesn't look like the luchadoras in Mexico are getting much of a push. I was really hoping that Sarita would stir a little more interest in the female wrestlers of Lucha Libre. But looking back at the major Mexican promotions so far this year, that doesn't to have seemed to happened.
Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA), held their Rey de Reyes (King of Kings) tournament back on March 15, 2009. The AAA Reina de Reinas (Queen of Queens) tournament is usually held around the same time, but so far, they haven't had one yet. The last one was on May 28, 2008 and was won by Faby Apache.
At AAA's Triplemania XVII, there were no luchadoras matches, although Billy Boy, Sexy Star, Polvo de Estrellas, and Mini Abismo Negro took on El Elegido, Faby Apache, Pimpinela Escarlata, and Octagoncito in an Eight Person "Atómicos" Tag Team match and won.
At Verano de Escandalo on August 21, 2009, again there was no luchadora match, but Fabi Apache, Sexy Star, Billy Boy and Aero Star were all involved in a Luchas de Apuestas, Steel Cage "hair/mask" match which Billy Boy lost.
At Heroes Inmortales III, Faby Apache will defend her Reina de Reinas Championship against Sexy Star in a "Bull Terrier" match.
Over at Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) the luchadoras didn't fair much better.
At Homenaje a Dos Leyendas on March 20, 2009, there were no luchadoras.
Infierno en del Ring 2009 on July 31, 2009 no luchadoras.
BUT, at the CMLL 76th Anniversary Show held on September 18, 2009 in Arena Mexico, Mexico City, amazingly Dark Angel herself showed up and teamed with Lady Apache to take on and defeat La Amapola and Hiroka in a tag team match.
The most searched for luchadoras in August came out a little different than July. One female wrestler topped everyone else by quite a bit.....
1. Sexy Star (Sexi Star, Dulce Poly) Luchadora Sexi Star didnt just show up once, but eleven times under different variations of her name, leading me to believe this young lady is still very popular. Dulce Maria Garcia Rivas was number two last month. Heres a kinda funny clip from YouTube of Estrellita and Sexy Star dancing with (I think) Martha Villalobos and Tsunami looking on...until Martha jumps in.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fq4fKw_dgsE
2. Esther Moreno Veteran luchadora Esther Moreno jumped all the way from eight last month up to two this month. You have to give Esther credit, she's been wrestling since March 18th, 1984. How many female wrestlers here keep going into their forties?
3. Martha Villalobos Another veteran female Mexican wrestler, Martha Villalobos was number one last month, but dropped down to number three this month. Martha turned 47 this year.
4. Miss Janeth Everyone seems to like the old school Lucha Libre wrestlers, as yet another veteran Miss Janeth came in at number four, up from number five last month.
5. India Sioux The lovely (and possibly retired) India Sioux jumped all the way from ten last month to five this month.
6. La Chacala La Chacala staying on with the Lucha Libre veterans, the consummate heel La Chacala wasn't on the list last month, but came in at six this month.
7. Tiffany Another luchadora that didn't rank last month, Tiffany, came in at number seven.
8. Irma Aguilar If Lucha libre has a hall of fame, this lady should be in it. Irma dropped one this month coming in at eight.
9. Marcela Popular luchadora Marcela dropped from three last month down to nine this month.
10. Pantera Surena And this really surprised me as another old school lucha libre star Pantera Surena came in at number ten this month.
So there are the top ten luchadoras on this blog for August 2009.
On Hermie's Hotseat, NASCAR's Hermie Sadler interviewed Sarita, who we know of course as luchadora Sarah Stock or Dark Angel.
Taylor Wilde was teamed with Sarita in the TNA Knockout Tag Team Title Tournament. I was hoping they would pair Sarita and Hamada, but Taylor and Sarita seem to work well together.
With Angelina Love out of TNA, their top spot is open. We can only hope.....
Since Luchadora India Sioux may not grace the wrestling ring again, I thought I would do a short tribute to this lovely young lady. (BTW, in case you didn't hear, nothing bad happened to her. The Cubs Fan has reported that she had a baby and probably won't be returning to the ring)
India Sioux was born on September 20, 1984, in Nezahualcoyotl, Mexico. She comes from a big wrestling family. REALLY big! Her father is Hombre Bala, her mother is the original India Sioux, her brothers are Hombre Bala Jr. and Corsario, her uncles are La Marquesa, Pirata Morgan and Verdugo. Her cousins are Perla Negra, Pirata Morgan Jr. and Rey Bucanero. She was trained by Puma her uncle La Marquesa, José Luis Feliciano and her father Hombre Bala. India made her Lucha Libre debut in April of 2004 at the Chimaluacan, Estado De Mexico.
The top ten most searched for luchadoras on this blog last month was another surprise. Each month the list changes drastically and it looks like last month, the "Old School" dominated....
1. Martha Villalobos Old School ruda Martha Villalobos topped the list last month after slowly working her way the the other female lucha libre stars over the months. "La Diva" seems to still be very popular with Lucha Libre fans.
2. Sexy Star (Sexi Star, Dulce Poly) Sexy Star is almost always in the top ten of the lucha women. Maybe it's that dance she does when she gets in the ring.
3. Marcela I just did a write up on Marcela over at my other luchadora blog because she was so popular. It looks like she is here as well.
4. Miss Janeth Another old school heel that is still very popular. Remember, it's pronounced Jeanette, not Janet.
5. Diana la Cazadora The lovely CMLL tecnica came in fifth last month.
6. Irma Gonzalez 7. Irma Aguilar Another blast from the past as Irma Gonzalez and her old tag team partner Irma Aguilar came in six and seven.
8. Esther Moreno People don't seem to be able to get enough of the classics.
9. Chikako Shiratori The lovely Chikako Shiratori held the CMLL Japan Women's Womens Wrestling Championship twice
10. India Sioux India Sioux may be one of the most attractive luchadoras, but according to what The Cubs Fan told me, she is a new mother and may have said good-bye to Lucha Libre.
Sarita (or Sarah Stock/Dark Angel as we know her best) finally has a profile page up at TNA.com. Not a lot there, just a few action shots and some posed ones. I checked ShopTNA.com and didn't see any merchandise yet. Oddly enough though they still have Gail Kim, Karen Angle and Roxxi Laveaux stuff and none of them are still with the company.
In case you missed it, here is the end of Sarita's debut match on TNA against Alissa Flash (Cheerleader Melissa).
Now how cool would a Sarita / Alissa Flash feud be?
Here is a picture I found on the Box y Lucha forum posted by hugo999 back in 2007 of luchadoras Maria Del Angel, Martha Villalobos and Tania. This is back in the "old school" days of Lucha Libre.
Martha went on to hold the AAA Reina de Reinas twice, the Mexican National Women's Wrestling Championship, the Mexican National Women's Tag Team Championship with Pantera Surena, the Northern Mexico Women's Championship, the Mexico State Women's Champion and the FILL Women's Championship.
Although I cant find where Maria held any titles, like a lot of other lucha libre stars, her family was deep into wrestling. Her husband was luchador Bestia Salvaje (Wild Beast), her brother-in-law was Azazel (Corazón Salvaje) and her brother was Charrito de Oro.
Tania went on to hold the NWG Intercontinental Women's Wrestling Title and the Hidalgo State Women's Wrestling Championship.
Here is part one of a match I ran across on YouTube of Ayako Hamada, Fabi Apache and Angel Williams (Or as you may know her better Angelina Love) wrestling Sexy Star,Estrellita and Cinthia Moreno. The video was posted by DoubleMiz, one of the YouTube posters I have praised several times in my Joshi (Japanese Womens Wrestling) blog. You can check out DoubleMiz's homepage here.
And even though it's an Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) event, the match has a lot of TNA flavor here with Konnan, Angelina and Ayako all asocciated with that promotion.
There has been quite a turnaround since the last time I did a Luchadora top ten list. Last time I did one back in May, the rankings looked like this.....
1.Tiffany 2. Goddess 3. Dark Angel 4. Marcela 5. Amapola 6. Sexy Star 7. Estrellita 8. Rosa Negra 9. Medussa 10. La Hechicera
But all of that has changed now and last month's most searched for female Lucha Libre stars are.....
1 Sexy Star (Sexi Star) Trained by the late, great Abismo Negro. Sexy Star came in 6th last time but came in at number one this time. 2. Perla Negra The daughter of Pirata Morgan. 3. Luna Magica CMLL Luchadora. 4. La Chacala One of the best brawlers in Lucha Libre. 5. Cynthia Moreno Famous Asistencia Asesoría y Administración luchadora. 6. Ayako Hamada Luchadora now signed with TNA. 7. Irma Gonzalez A blast from the past. I was really shocked she came in on the list. 8. Lady Apache Another classic luchadora. 9. Martha Villalobos A classic heel (or rudo) that I was kind of surprised to see on the list. 10. India Sioux A lovely Luchadora that I'm surprised isnt any farther up the list.
Here's a video of Lady Apache wrestling Tiffany in a "Bull Terrier" match. The Bull Terrier match is a dog collar match and looks like it could be very dangerous for either luchadora.
Of course we are given the classic "heel interference" at the end with "The Black Family" coming to Tiffany's aid.
Here is a video of Dark Angel (Sarah Stock before she became a TNA Knockout) wrestling Amapola in a hair versus mask match. Bear in mind this is a two part match, and the first part is eight minutes. When's the last time you saw an eight minute plus match with the WWE Divas?
If you want to see some REALLY good photos of luchadoras in action, head over to Adam Wiseman Photography. Go to the main page, click "photos" in the left menu, then click "luchadoras". There are some really good action and candid shots there that will give you a feel of what Mexican wrestling is all about. http://www.adamphotogallery.com/main.php
And Luchadoras.net has added some new videos from May of this year. Sadly their photo gallery hasnt been updated since 2005, but you can see some pics from the new videos in the video section. You can visit their main page here: http://www.luchadoras.net/index.html
Clickwrestle also has a couple of luchadora videos, La Nazi vs. Cheerleader Melissa and Cheerleader Melissa vs. Katwoman. You can see them here http://clickwrestle.com/
Here is a lucha libre video I found on YouTube of Marcela, Dark Angel and Lady Apache going up against Amapola, Princesa Sujei and Medusa in the CMLL. This is part one of a two part video that was posted by TheCatchChannel who BTW has a lot of good lucha libre videos on his channel. Like I said, this is part one of a two part video and part one alone is edited but still runs 10:27. When's the last time you saw a WWE Diva's match go 10 minutes? And like I said, that's just part one.
I really don't like Princesa Sujei's bleached blond hair. I think she looked better the other way.
First up, since I haven't done this in awhile, here are the top ten most searched for luchadoras on this blog last month.....
1.Tiffany The number one most searched for luchadora on this blog last month was Asistencia Asesoría y Administración's Tiffany. 2. Goddess 3. Dark Angel 4. Marcela 5. Amapola 6. Sexy Star 7. Estrellita 8. Rosa Negra 9. Medussa 10. La Hechicera
Second, The IWG Promotion (International Wrestling Group) is trying to gear up their luchadora division. Back on April 3rd, they held an open casting call looking for luchadoras.
And finally, over at Claudia Wiens' blog, there are some REALLY nice candid photos of luchadoras like Sexy Star and Sarah Stock. It's really worth checking out.
Well I made an entry and again it happened. This is getting weird..... So just in case I'm on to something here..... I am a millionaire! Sorry, it just seems like every time I report on something it seems to happen within a week.
ANYWAY...LOL...right after I did my last entry on Sarah Stock and TNA, she debuted! Yes "The Dark Angel" had a match with Awesome Kong in a match taped for Xplosion. Sarah came up short, but c'mon, she was wrestling Kong! But dont feel bad, the next night in another dark match, Sarah defeated Taylor Wilde.
Sarah still isnt on the TNA roster at their website (watch..now that I said that she'll be there by Friday) yet, even though they wasted no time getting Jenna Morasca on there.
So will we see Sarah in CMLL again? To keep up to date with Sarah, you can visit her website here: http://www.sarah.newscott.com/
So is Sarah Stock (Dark Angel) going to TNA? At first everything seemed like it was pointing at that. But as far as I know, SuperLuchas.net is still denying reports of Stock signing with TNA. They say that Sarah is in negotiations with TNA, but right now, thats all. Sarah is still competing in Mexico, but we have known since the beginning that Sarah had to fulfill her obligations in CMLL before coming to TNA. I guess like everything else, we will just have to wait and see.
Sweet Nancy is a Puerto Rican luchadora from the town of Caguas. Nancy has wrestled for both the International Wrestling Association (IWA) and the World Wrestling Council (WWC) in Puerto Rico. She has held the Women's Wrestling Championship in both promotions.
